As you know, Banh Mi is Vietnamese Sandwich that use french baguette filled with meat and vegetables.
Even though the Banh Mi mean is bread without any fillings, now days everyone recognize Banh Mi is Vietnamese sandwich.
The filling can be very variety such as grilled pork or chicken, Vietnamese sausage, ham, meat balls, tofu, and more. Normally filled with vegetables such as cucumber, pickled carrot and radish (Kohlrabi), chili and cilantro. Common sauces are mayonnaise, chili sauce (Such as Sriracha), and Maggi sauce (Seasoned soy sauce).
I and my hubby love love love Banh Mi. But we always thought it is very hard to eat or take a perfect one bite out of it, because of the bread and the filling. If the bread is too hard, it is very hard to take a bite with enough filling or if the bread is too soft, it is very soggy from the sauces and pickled carrot and radish.
One day I had leftover pizza dough I made a day before. I was going to make a flat bread with the pizza dough, fill up and make “Flat Bread Banh Mi Sandwich”. Sounds like a great idea, right?
But some how, I changed my mind and thought, let’s make Banh Mi Pizza?! Why not?
I marinated pork already a day before, my hubby was ready to grill. So all I had to do was arrange vegetables, meat and sauce.
I marinated pork in fish sauce, sweet soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, onion, and black pepper.
I think I added some rice wine too.
I was going to cook the pizza dough in oven first, but some reason I wanted to try grill it. So I asked my hubby and he was more than happy to grill the dough for me, so taran~~ I had a grilled pizza dough.
It was more crispier than cook in a oven, witch is works perfect for this particular pizza.
After he brought me the grilled pizza dough, I let it cool about 5 – 10 minutes. When it cooled enough to handle but still warm, I started arrange the toppings. I spread mayonnaise first instead of the pizza sauce. Then I put sliced fresh cucumber and pickled carrot and radish as you see.

YEAH YEAH! It’s meat time~!! lol
I cut the meat as small bite size then put on top of the vegetables. The smell of the meat was phenomenal!
I decided to make my Banh Mi pizza very spicy because we love spicy food, so I topped with lots of sliced chilis. I think I used 1 jalapeno, 2 Serrano.
But it wasn’t enough spicy!! So I added some SRIRACHA~!! (Chili sauce) I also added Maggy sauce for flavor. Man, that looks spicy~!!! lol
For the last, I would love to use cilantro but I didn’t have at that time. So I used fresh Thai basil instead.
It was still great and delicious!!
My hubby said it was one of the best foods he ever had in his life…!!!
He said he could take every single bites as a perfect bite with everything on it, as he wished when he eats Banh Mi.
WOW, I was very overwhelming and happy after I heard that from him. One of the best compliments I ever had! ^-^
I can’t wait to make this Banh Mi pizza again!!!!
I hope you guys try some crazy topping pizza!
Who knows, it will be the best thing you ever made or ate?!
