Not just smashed potato, but Honey Butter Smashed Potatoes!

Recently, Korea went crazy over honey butter flavor and they literally makes everything with honey butter flavor. Some are incredible, some are just ok to be honest. lol!

One of the original and my favorite honey butter flavor with is… Potato!

We are eating yams and marshmallows for Thanksgiving, why not Honey Butter Smashed Potato for Christmas?! 😀

My recipe calls 1 lb baby yukon gold potatoes, but you can use any baby potatoes.

Cook the potatoes until fork tender by place them into a large pot and pour enough cold water to cover the potato. You need cook them from the cold water, so they will cook evenly inside out. Add generous amount of salt and bring it to boil. Reduce heat to medium high and let them boil for 5 to 10 minutes for small ones and 10 to 15 minutes for bigger ones. Rinse under cold water then drain. Cold potatoes are easier to smash! 😉

Smash the potatoes gently with your palm or a large spoon. Don’t smash them until it lose the form, make sure you can lift up potato without breaking down.

Heat a large cast iron pan over medium heat then add butter, honey, salt and herb if you are using any. Mix well.

When the honey butter is simmering, place smashed potatoes carefully. Increase heat to medium high then sear first side of potatoes for 5 to 7 minutes or until golden brown. Then flip it over. Cook another 5 to 7 minutes.

Sprinkle with extra herbs or black pepper to your taste. Enjoy!

  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 Tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Your favorite herb, optional (thyme, rosemary, sage, parsley and etc…)

Happy to report that I made these potatoes and the beans for Christmas! They were both delicious, and will make amazing leftovers.
(I added a tablespoon of sambal to the beans, I hope thats ok. The wife has a head cold and needed some heat to clear her sinuses ?)

Tried these last night to have as a side with steak. Only problem was that there weren’t enough! Everybody in my family loved them 😀 My only tip is to find the smallest potatoes you can because they turned out to be the tastiest.

This recipe is fantastic. I have made this a few times and always get compliments. I use fresh lemon thyme and extra garlic. Best potatoes ever! I’m such a fan of her recipes, they her pad thai recipe, you won’t be disappointed. .

Is it ok to use more than 1 kind of herb eg thyme and Rosemary ?

These are a hit at our house. Tastes amazing with Hot Honey. I buy Mikes Hot Honey or add chili flakes or two birds eye chilies.
