Hi guys!
This is the 2nd recipe of 2017 Asian at Home Holiday Special Recipes!! 😀
I’m so thrilled to share my style of holiday special recipes with you all, because I’ve got some amazing recipes for the holidays!!
Anyways.. Today, is an amazingly delicious side dish recipe!
Spicy Stir Fried Chinese Long Beans!!!
It is a killer side dish that will wow your guest!
Chinese long beans are exactly what it sounds like. It’s just a super duper long beans! lol
It has more crunchier texture and thiner than regular green beans.
Taste wise? Pretty much same. 😉
Go ahead and chop all the ingredients and mix the sauce. This way, when you are cooking on the high heat, you don’t need to reduce heat to find where is the sauce or trying to chop!
You will need garlic, shallot, green beans, and Of course, bacon.
Can’t have holiday meal without bacon!!
Chop garlic and shallot finely.
Cut long beans into 2-inches long.
Cut thick center cut bacon into bite sizes.
In a small mixing bowl, combine Toban Djan, oyster sauce and hint of sugar.
If you are allergic to shell fish or whatever reason can’t have oyster sauce, go ahead and use vegetarian oyster sauce!
Toban Djan is Chinese chili bean sauce, spicy and super yummy!! I love using Toban Djan for stir fry, because it has so much flavor from the fermented bean. It is one of the main sauce for Chinese Sichuan cuisine, so if you love Chinese style spicy food, definitely get one in your kitchen!
Now, heat a wok over high heat, add oil and bacon. If you are using regular thick cut bacon, not center), then omit the oil! Cook the bacon until the edges are crispy and enough oil’s released.
Add chopped garlic and shallot. Stir fry for 30 seconds to 1 minute or until you can smell the fragrance.
Make sure not to burn them!
Before the garlic and shallots get burn, pour the sauce mixture. Stir fry all together for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Be careful not to burn the sauce.
Toban Djan tastes so much better when you stir fry ahead in oil before you add all the main ingredients! 🙂
Add long beans and chicken stock. Now, cover with a lid and let them steam for 5 to 6 minutes. Stir occasionally. If don’t have a lid for your wok, add additional 1/4 cup water. Stir fry for 5 to 6 minutes or until all the moisture’s evaporated.
Serve on a serving plate and enjoy! I recommend to serve with my Zesty Prime Ribs and Honey Butter Smashed Potato!
This Spicy Stir Fried Chinese Long Beans can be everyday side dish, not only for the holidays!
It is amazing with rice as well! If you are making this just to eat with rice, go ahead and fish with sesame oil & sesame seeds! I didn’t add in here because sesame oil & seeds doesn’t work great with my Zesty Prime Ribs. 🙂
Happy holidays guys, have a WONDERFUL HOLIDAYS!!!!

I love this recipe of yours Seonkyung. Actually i just finished cooking it now 😁 More power and God Bless. Sending love all the way from Dubai, UAE 🥰🥰🥰
I wonder if it will turn out good if i use thai chili paste in soy oil since instead. i don’t have that toban djang. Great recipe by the way love it.
I don’t have toban djang sauce. Can I use Kikkoman Thai style chili sauce?
I would suggest trying to find toban djan, you can find it at an asian grocery store, and if there aren’t any around you, you can find it on amazon! Here is the link : https://amzn.to/2LFkii5
This recipe is beyond delicious! Could tofu be used instead of bacon?
Delicious! One of my favorite recipes. I use pork belly and we enjoy it as a main dish. I make this regularly. I couldn’t leave comments in YouTube because of system issue.
