Hi everyone!
Today I’m going to share our lunch from the other day.
I made Bukeoguk – Korean Dried Pollack Soup.
I was kinda tired of eating meat, and want some light Korean food. I saw dried pollack in my pantry and thought that I haven’t have Bukeoguk for a while. It sounded so good!
I had all the ingredients in my refrigerator so I started make it!
Those are the two dried pollack I had in my pantry.
Left one is I got from local Asian market, and right one is my mom got for me from Hmart. 🙂
Left one is a bit cheaper, but right one quality is better. Also has a Bukeoguk recipe on the back.
북엇국 (Bukeoguk) – Korean Dried Pollack Soup
Ingredients
1 Tablespoon sesame oil
2 oz. dried pollack
1 clove garlic, minced
5 cups water
1 cup radish, slice thinly then cut into bite size
4 oz. firm tofu slice thinly then cut into bite size (thinly diced)
1 handful soybean sprouts
1 Tablespoon soy sauce or fish sauce*
1 egg, lightly beaten, seasoned with salt
Black pepper
2 green onion, slice into diagonal angle
1 teaspoon Youndoo – optional*
Directions
Heat a large pot over medium-high heat. Add sesame oil; add dried pollack and garlic, stir-fry for 2 minutes or until fragrant. Add water and radish, cover and bring to boil.
When it’s boiling add tofu and soybean sprouts, bring to boil again. *Do not cover this point, or you will get some bad flavor from soybean sprouts.
When soybean sprouts cooked thought, season with soy or fish sauce.
Add beaten egg around the edge of the pot, and do not stir until egg is cooked.
Add black pepper, green onion and Youndoo.
Turn off the heat and serve warm.
*Seonkyoung’s Tip: I like to use soy sauce when I made a flavorful broth for the soup, and if I use water, I like to use fish sauce for deeper flavor. You can also use half soy and half fish sauce.
I used 1 teaspoon of Sempio Youndoo for boost the flavor of the soup.
My recipe is still fabulously delicious without Youndoo.
But the last touch of Youndoo will makes this soup from fabulous soup to unforgettable soup!
You can buy Sempio Youndoo from http://www.mysempio.com/

I hope this warm comfy soup will warm your beginning of the new season. ^-^
I love fall. Makes me feel so cozy.

I have finally realized that you have a website outside of YouTube! Very lovely!
This soup looks amazing, and I just bought some dried pollack today, so I will make it soon. Honestly, I was kind of amazed at how expensive dried pollack is, but that’s okay. I love all of your recipes, and it was very nice to actually learn more about you in your “about me” section. I did not know you are an artist!!! SO awesome, me too!!!!
Thanks again for all of your wonderful recipes, and for sharing them all with the world.
lol Yes!! You finally found it!! Yes, dried pollack can be very expensive, but it is worth it!! What kind of art do you do Justin? I love painting and drawing cartoon!! Also I’m going to start some DIY project that I’ve been wanting to try so bad!! It’s one of my new year resolution! 😀 Hope you having a merry Christmas and Happy new year!!
Thank you! I hope you also had a wonderful holiday and new year. Did you go home to Korea to visit family for the holiday?
Lately I have gone back to school to get a degree in creative writing, but as far as visual arts I like to paint tiny black and white photorealistic oil portraits, as well as some mixed media/collage work. I have also been getting more and more interested in vinyl-tile mosaics that you can glue to the street (I got this idea from a phenomenon that occurred here in the midwest and east coast, and was made into a documentary called “Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles.” If you get an opportunity, try to watch it. It’s really interesting!
What DIY projects do you want to do?
