Hi guys!
Today I’m going to teach you, “How to build your own banh mi”!
Banh Mi is Vietnamese style sandwich, that has lots of veggies, flavors and textures!
By changing the protein, it becomes totally different flavor.
So instead of sharing one banh mi recipe, I decided to share the base foundation of “how-to” style of recipe.
I cut it down to 5 steps to build banh mi, so just by following the step by step,
you can play around and customize as you wish your dream banh mi to be!
Step 1, bread.
I highly recommend Vietnamese baguette, but you can also make banh mi with regard french baguette, your favorite sandwich roll or ciabatta.
The key point of the bread is light & crispy outer skin and soft inside.
Step 2, spread.
Banh mi is oftenly made with pate, mayonnaise and seasoning sauce.
Pate is pretty much buttery meat spread.
There are lots of pate recipes out there and I do have my own pate recipe as well, which works wonderfully in banh mi!
I prefer to use homemade mayonnaise or Japanese kewpie mayonnaise.
Seasoning sauce is like soy sauce, because it’s dark in color and salty.
I like Maggi brand, you can it easily at your local grocery stores at Asian/Hispanic food area.
Step 3, protein.
This step is endless.
You can use any type of meat you have or want.
Cold or hot, it doesn’t matter. All it matter is your preference and your taste!
From lemongrass chicken to cold cut lunch meat!
Step 4, Crunch Veggies.
Essential for banh mi will be cucumber, chili and pickled radish & carrot.
Step 5, Fragrance Veggies.
My favorite fragrance veggies are cilantro and green onion.
I also love to use mint for my pork banh mi, basil works great as well!
Now, you know the essential for banh mi, so go run to store and make ’em!
Hope you enjoy~!!
