Korean Tofu Jorim Recipe & Video

by Seonkyoung

Today I’m sharing another Korean side dish AKA Banchan, Tofu Jorim!

Tofu is a wonderful source of protein, it’s clean plant-based, and will absolve any flavors you put it into!

Jorim means braised with minimum liquid in Korean.

Tofu Jorim can be your side dish, but it definitely can be the main dish!

For tofu jorim, you will need medium-firm to firm tofu. I always like to use Korean brand tofu, the texture is much better in my opinion.  Cut tofu in halves lengthwise then slice into 1/2” thick squares.

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add cooking oil. Carefully add the tofu slices and cook 5 to 6 minutes on each side or until both side is nicely golden brown.

The portable gas stove I’m using in this recipe is here! I got it from Amazon, and it works wonderfully!

Meanwhile, let’s make the sauce!

Combine chopped garlic, chopped green onion, gochugaru, soy sauce, maple syrup, sesame oil, and sesame seeds in a mixing bowl.

Slice some onion and place it on the bottom of a small to medium size thick bottom pot.

Place one layer of fried tofu slices on top of the onion and top with a couple of tablespoons of the sauce. Repeat until you are done with all the ingredients.

Cover, bring it to boil over medium-high heat then reduce heat to medium and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes.

Garnish with some sesame seeds if you like, and it’s ready to serve with warm cooked rice and other Korean side dishes!

Enjoy!

You could serve the pan-fried tofu with this sauce as a dipping sauce, very delicious, more fresh and pungent! I prefer to eat this way during the summertime!

I enjoy your videos and also seeing recipes from your mom. I will definitely try this dish. My family thinks I am crazy for cooking Korean food but they all eat the dishes and like them. Lol!
